A new Bus Éireann survey has shed some light on young adults' transport habits.

Over two thirds of adults aged between 19 and 23 use public transport more than they did three years ago.

This new Bus Éireann research was conducted with young adults based outside of Dublin.

Of the 515 19 to 23 year olds, over a fifth of them say they can't drive.

40 per cent of those surveyed believe public transport is their cheapest transport option.

14 per cent are climate conscious and take buses or trains to reduce their carbon footprint.

Almost half use public transport to get to university or college, with 60 per cent saying they do so on a daily or weekly basis

However more than four in ten haven't availed of the Young Adult Leap Card Fares introduced by TFI.

Despite this, just under a third are using public transport more regularly because of the reduced fares introduced earlier this year.
