The National Parents Council says voluntary payments to schools are a major source of stress amid the cost of living crisis.

Voluntary contributions are payments made by parents to primary and secondary schools to aid in covering running costs.

A survey by the Irish league of Credit Unions shows the average costs of voluntary payment are 124 euros for secondary and 81 euros for primary school pupils.
