Extra ambulances and extra paramedics will not act as magic cures for the ills of the National Ambulance Service.
That's according to Brendan Flynn of the National Ambulance Service Representative Association, who was reacting to an unpublished HSE presentation, which leaked to the public on Monday.
The report warns that a target of responding to life-threatening cases within 19 minutes, would be met in fewer than 40 per cent of instances - by 2027.
Speaking to RedFM News, Brendan Flynn from NASRA says delays in A&Es taking in patients creates a bottleneck that no amount of ambulances could solve:
"Ideally you'd like to have a turn around at an A&E of about a half an hour. The latest figure I'd seen is, on average about an hour and five minutes so even if we got those extra ambulances, we would also need to deal with the issue of handing patients over at the DS."
