Changes to the minimum wage for young workers aren't expected until at least 2029.
Under current legislation, employers can pay workers under 20 - a lower rate of the minimum wage, with some 18-year-olds receiving 80 percent of the full rate.
Employment Minister Peter Burke responded, stating the opposition’s position does not reflect the realities of the labour market:
"You have asked in another question to bring the minimum wage up to 17 euro, which is about six times the growth rate of wages in our economy. You would leave this country without any jobs, and that's because Deputy Murphy, you have not an iota of what it takes to run the enterprise economy. You don't know what it means to employ people, you don't know the value of the 2.81 million people that are going to work every single day in this country"
