Members of the Irish National Teachers Organisation and the Teachers Union of Ireland have voted to accept a public sector pay deal.
Last month the Government reached agreement with unions that would see public sector workers recieve a 6.5% pay increase over two years.
The TUI voted by a margin of 85% to 15 to accept the deal while the INTO, which is Irelands largest teaching union, say 80% of members who voted, were in favour.
John Boyle is the General Secretary of the INTO...
"A disagreement that we've welcomed today. Our members are overwhelmingly behind it. It will provide significant pay up lifts and certainty for the next 12 months. We intend to continue to monitor the cost of living in the next six months. And in the next agreement if there is negotiations, we have outstanding claims that we want to be addressed, and we want to make sure that the next agreement also improves the living standards and the working conditions of our members."
