A man who appeared before Tralee District Court on charges of theft has asked for permission to be allowed to go to his mother's funeral.
51 year old Billy Burns, of no fixed abode, is the son of Miriam Burns who was found murdered in her home in Ardshanavooley in Killarney on Monday.
He appeared in court today accused of theft and the unauthorised taking of a vehicle in Killarney last October.
During this hearing, Mr Burns told the Judge Joanne Carroll he "loved his mother more than anything in the world." and asked to attend her funeral, accompanied by Gardaí.
The court denied the request and Mr Burns was remanded in custody to appear again before Tralee District Court next week.
