A Cork based Residents Association estimate that 1 in every 3 rental properties are not registered with the Residential Tenancies Board.

That's the experience of The Magazine Road and Surrounding Areas Residents Association who first began reporting unregistered rental properties to the RTB in 2017.

They say it's harder to resolve anti-social behaviour and other problems when rental properties are not registered.

Representatives of the RTB travelled to Cork this week to meet the Residents Association because locals were frustrated at the Board's perceived inaction.

Speaking to RedFM News, Chairperson of the Magazine Road and Surrounding Areas Residents Association, Catherine Clancy says the RTB needs to ensure ALL rental properties are registered.

"They're the body who provide the accurate and up to date information to the government on the rental sector, and if we're to move on any housing issues the first thing we need to know is how many rental properties out there.

"We make out that there are probably 150,000 houses nationally that are not registered with the RTB if you're to go on our figures locally, which is 1 in 3."
