A Kerry-based journalist says locals are still "baffled" by an apparent double murder-suicide that happened in the north of the county.

Gardaí have not yet established a motive for the incident, though a criminal investigation has been launched.

56-year-old Eileen O'Sullivan and her 24-year-old son Jamie, were found in separate rooms in their home in Lixnaw by a neighbour on Tuesday night.

Eileen's 63-year-old partner Mossie was found at the back of the home.

Local journalist Anne Lucey says the community are struggling to make sense of what happened.

"It's the third such [incident] in the region, Cork and Kerry are very close and you've had two in Cork and this is the now the third as such

"This is completely baffling locals. I spoke to a woman who knew them well  yesterday on the condition of anonymity, and there were no signals, they seemed happy."
