The Leaving Cert results should be released to students in June, according to the Irish Universities Association.
The group says the current timeline of releasing them in August is no longer fit for purpose.
It will appear before the Oireachtas Education Committee this morning, where it will also suggest college offers should be given out in July.
IUA President Jim Miley says more continuous assessment and bringing the final exam forward would help to facilitate these proposed changes.
"I think if you look t the current timing, it serves nobody well and it's particularly difficult for students and their families.
"You get the results in mid August, and the first college offers go out in week three of August.
"But then the second and third round offers that many depend off are well into the middle of September."
