A leading professor says Covid-19 remains a public health threat, despite a declaration the global public health emergency is over.
The World Health Organisation announced the move yesterday, after three years.
The pandemic has killed more than 6.9 million people.
Professor Anthony Staines says Covid-19 will be around for the foreseeable future:
"I think just as we need to be careful for saying in our parts of the world for influenza in other parts of the world for things like malaria or Dengue fever, we will all have to be careful for Covid really for the foreseeable future, and vaccines have changed the calculus because the vaccines greatly reduce your risk of dying or becoming seriously ill from Covid."
