A leading immigrant support organisation is urging the government to draw up a proper plan to deal with the influx of refugees.

Doras says it welcomes comments made by the Tánaiste Micheál Martin on Friday night, when he admitted that Government communications on the accommodation of refugees in rural areas could be better.

The comments came after criticism of the way refugees were allocated to a hotel at Inch, County Clare.

John Lannon from Doras says a proper plan needs to be drawn up quickly or else the scenes witnessed at Inch will be repeated elsewhere:

"I think it's also really important that the government communicated clear a plan and a strategy for how they intend to meet the reception, accommodation and integration needs of refugees and migrants. People will always need to seek asylum here. How we respond says a lot about our commitment to supporting people affected by war and persecution. And that's not just people from Ukraine. It's also people from Sudan, from Yemen, from Nigeria, from many parts of the world".
