The Labour Leader has questioned if political pressure was put on the Residential Tenancies Board, over a delay in releasing information about the numbers of eviction notices issued towards the end of last year.

Ivana Bacik says information released under Freedom of Information requests shows the Department of Housing had sight of the preliminary figures on the 19th January.

Deputy Bacik claims the coalition showed contempt for renters by failing to publish them, before lifting the eviction ban on the 1st April:

"We're very concerned that the Residential Tenancy Board only released the data relating to Notice To Quit issued in Q3 and Q4 of last year after crucial decisions were made by government. We only saw the Q4 data for example, after the Dáil had risen for the Easter break, and we only saw the Q3 data after the government had taken the decision to lift the ban. So we're just concerned about the timing of the release of data into the public domain".
