Labour is calling on all workers to join a union on International Workers' Day today.
It says being part of one gives them the best chance to get better protections.
However, it's hitting out at the Government as there is no right in Ireland to be recognised for collective bargaining purposes.
The party's spokesperson on workers' rights, Senator Marie Sherlock, says joining a union protects workers:
"I suppose our plea today is to all workers in the country to make sure that you are part of a trade union, because it gives you the best possible chance to forge a fairer workplace, better terms and conditions for yourself and for your colleagues, and of course protection within the workplace".
