King Charles the Third has been formally announced as Britain's new monarch during a ceremony at St James's Palace in London.
More than 200 senior politicians past and present, witnessed the new King taking part in the key constitutional and ceremonial step, which was broadcast on TV for the first time in history.
He paid tribute to his mother, the Queen, and vowed to follow her "inspiring example".
