Children who are starting Junior Infants later this year can now claim five free books from their local library.
The Government scheme is aimed at helping kids settle into school and also get them familiar with libraries at a young age.
Children's Minister Roderic O'Gorman says the free books will give parents an opportunity to discuss the transition into school
"It's very much focused on themes like friendships and new adventures.
"We're doing this because we know that the transition from early years or Montessori into junior infants is a big change for children, so we're providing these books so they can talk to their parents about those big themes of change and new adventures and friendship.
"It's also about encouraging that lifelong love of reading."
