The Justice Minister says the responsibility to stop young people sharing intimate photos online should not be on parents.
Gardaí are urging parents to keep a closer eye on their children's online activity, following a reported rise in the number of young people posting intimate images without consent.
It's now an offence to do so - and 72 prosecutions are currently ongoing.
Minister Simon Harris says it's unfair to put the onus on parents:
"Pressures on parents of teenage children is huge and is a mentor job to keep up with evolving technology and living in a world where your child is more familiar with technology than perhaps you might be. And so the Gardaí and myself as legislators shouldn't be suddenly telling parents what to do, and we should be supporting them with laws and with enforcement."
