The Justice Minister says he's requested a report from the chair of GSOC, over the resignation of an officer who allegedly attended a house party with Gerry Hutch on Monday.

Simon Harris says it's "a serious matter which needs to be investigated" and he expects to have more information in the coming days.

It's understood the officer told a number of people he'd been at the party, and the claim was subsequently reported to senior management.

Paul Healy, chief reporter with the Irish Daily Star, says the officer has been involved in several major investigations:

"This particular senior investigator - the issue at hand, it's my understanding is that he was involved in the investigation into the death of Detective Superintendent Colm Fox. The Detective Superintendent died in very tragic circumstances and Ballymun Garda Station in 2019, and he was actually the lead investigator into the Regency Hotel murder of David Byrne. So, there's a conflict of interest there".
