The junior minister for equality and integration has met with protestors in Co Clare in an effort to end a blockade at a hotel accommodating refugees.

Minister of State Joe O'Brien, told representatives from a group of protestors that no further international protection applicants will be sent to the area, for the next four weeks, if their demonstration is stood down.

More than 30 asylum seekers moved into holiday homes on the grounds of Magowna House Hotel in Inch earlier this week - some locals have argued that its rural location is unsuitable.

Local Fianna Fail Senator, Timmy Dooley, hopes the group will take the decision to end the protest:

"There's obviously a wait now to see if the blockades or the protests will be lifted. And from my perspective, now that the Minister has met with them and listened to their concerns, which is what they wanted from the outset, I think now the reason for the blockade to be in place no longer exists. I never supported the idea of it, but I understood where people were coming from, but I know think cool heads need to get together".
