A technical issue that left many shops across the country unable to take card payments has been resolved.
The problem with the Opayo platform emerged yesterday afternoon and persisted into the evening.
SuperValu and Centra were among the retailers who couldn't process card transactions.
Business correspondent Joe Lynam says Opayo has apologised - and fixed the issue.
"People faced the ultimate embarrassment, the ultimate middle class embarrassment, having your card rejected at the supermarket or at the tills or whatever it is.
"The system is back up and running now. So if you go to Opayo monitoring page it says that everything is back normal now, but it was down for the day."
