Some Irish Twitter staff have confirmed on the social media site that they have lost their jobs.

It's part of a downsizing of the global workforce at the company, which could see up to half of its staff made redundant.

It follows the buyout by billionaire Elon Musk last week.

Tech correspondent Jess Kelly says it's the latest tech giant to cut down on employees:

"All employees impacted by the layoffs will know by 4pm Irish time via their personal email addresses. Many large tech companies are reducing their headcount as they prepare for a tougher economic environment. Yesterday digital payments giant Stripe let 14% of its workforce go meanwhile, Irish company intercom cut its headcount by under 5% in September of this year with 49 redundancies."
