Irish shoppers are being warned of online scams as they search for Black Friday bargains.

25 thousand euro is expected to be spent every minute today, as consumers take part in the annual event.

An Post says it expects the number of parcels it will process will go up by 'hundreds of thousands' in the coming weeks.

Dermott Jewell from the Consumer Association of Ireland, explains how to tell if a website is legitimate:

"It's important that you are sure that the site is secure. Look for the HTTPS at the beginning. Look for the padlock sign. And most importantly, you need to know who you're dealing with so you need to check for the location of the body that you're dealing with. It may suggest it's a .ie website address, for example., but they could be in some far flung region."
