Ireland could be on the verge of a hydrogen revolution to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
The Government will receive recommendations today saying that if more investment is put in to hydrogen, emissions will be reduced by 2.6% over the next eight years.
A specially commissioned Report will call on the Government to draw up an official strategy to develop the gas as a serious alternative energy source.
Jonathan Hogan of Hydrogen Mobility Ireland which has written the Report, says hydrogen will be a cheaper alternative to fossils fuels and electric vehicles:
"There's going to be use cases where battery electric vehicles are not going to be able to take us all the way. This is the kind of a big opportunity where hydrogen can step in and enable us to get to 100% decarbonisation of the transport sector."
