Ireland football manager Vera Pauw says she blamed herself after she was allegedly raped in the Netherlands.

She opened up on the issue in a lengthy statement on social media yesterday, saying her complaints were not properly dealt with by the Netherlands FA.

The soccer coach has since raised the issue with police in Amsterdam.

Vera claims she was raped once 'by a prominent football official' and sexually assaulted by two others, also working in Dutch football.

CEO of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, Noeline Blackwell, says victims often blame themselves even though it is NEVER their fault:

"That is so normal that such a reaction that we hear again and again, yes, it is possible to have consensual sexual activity with somebody. But if you don't want it to go any further, and you say that or you indicate it , or you make it clear, then it should stop. Too often it doesn't, and people continue to blame themselves for what it's someone else's fault."
