The Irish Property Owners Association says it will take a constitutional challenge to any evictions ban.

Cabinet is considering the move this morning, after legislation was drafted by the Department of Housing.

There will be exceptions for extreme circumstances, but - if enacted - it'll mean no new notices to quit can be issued until the end of March.

IPOA Chairperson, Mary Conway, says the group will mount a legal challenge if it comes to it.

"What's going to change between now and March?

"I've got an issue with the minister and his team yesterday, he said there's going to be lots of support in place, lots of houses for people to move into, but he wasn't able to give any figures or any quantities.

"Nothing's going to change between now and March, it's storing up the problem.

"Our members are very concerned. We will be looking at taking constitutional challenges if it comes in."
