The current trolley figures for hospitals in Cork, especially CUH, are sounding the alarm for a "very bleak" winter.

That's according to the INMO's Assistant Director of Industrial Relations, Colm Porter.

The nurses and midwives union published their Pre-Budget Submission for Budget 2023 yesterday.

They say that any measures announced at the end of the month must address under-funding, under-staffing and under-resourcing within the health service, and well as protecting the physical and mental health of nurses.

The INMO is also calling for the HSE's Winter Preparedness Plan to be published immediately.

Last year's plan wasn't published until November.

Speaking to RedFM News, Colm Porter says the HSE's Winter Plan will be no use - if it is published when nurses and other medics are already in the grip of another winter overcrowding crisis.

"The trolley figures in the summer, they really sound the alarm bells for a very bleak winter, unless action is taken.

"The Health Minister and the HSE need to implement a fully funded winter plan.

"It's not good enough to publish a plan for winter when healthcare workers and patients are in the throes of a winter crisis."
