An independent senator is calling for the Seanad to be recalled from its summer break, to discuss the country's search and rescue helicopter service.
A new multi-million-euro contract for the service, which is due to be tendered by the Department of Transport, will see an operator appointed for the next 10 years.
Senator Gerard Craughwell believes such a large contract should be discussed publicly at the Seanad urgently.
