Over stretched Emergency Departments are finding it increasingly difficult to deal with the number of drug related cases presenting at Emergency Departments.
As the Citizens' Assembly on Drugs enters its second day more than 100 people are taking part - examining the changes that could be made to reduce the impact of illegal drugs on society.
The current Citizens' Assembly is expected to run until October when it votes on its recommendations.
Emergency Physician Dr. Chris Luke told the assembly dealing with the consequences of of drug taking is putting severe pressure on the system:
"For every 10 Guys kicking off at the door of a club, you know one or so will proceed into severe cocaine related delirium, agitation, violence or sometimes an acute stroke or heart attack or seizure. The number one problem is we're already packed out, drug issues can be very very difficult to to deal with as a result."
