The Irish Medical Organisation says a new report is a clear warning that the health of patients and front line medical staff is in danger due to a shortage of doctors in Irish hospitals.

The Medical Workforce Intelligence Report from the Irish Medical Council says non-consultant hospital Doctors are regularly working over 48 hours a week, something the IMO says is putting both patients and doctors at risk.

It also highlights the ongoing recruitment and retention crisis in the health service, something the IMO says the government must finally act on.

The report says there is a need for 42% more consultants, 38% more trainees, and a 42% increase in the number of GPs.

Speaking to RedFM News, IMO President Dr. Clive Kilgallen says the lack of progress is very frustrating.
