Household shopping bills set to rise

We're set to pay €3 more a day for food and drink over the coming year.

The Central Statistics Office is predicting the price of an average Irish household shopping bill will rise by €780 over the next 12 months.

But the Irish Independent quotes food industry sources as saying that could be a conservative estimate because of rising costs of raw materials, manufacturing, distribution and fuel.

While the conflict in Ukraine could also push prices up even further.
