Health officials have warned not to touch dead or sick birds after a viral disease was found in black-headed seagulls in Limerick.
The Department of Public Health says there has been no known contact between the public and birds with avian influenza.
It's urging everyone to avoid handling or coming into contact with any type of ailing or dead birds.
Should one come across dead poultry or wild birds, the advice is to contact the nearest Regional Veterinary Office or ring the Avian Influenza Helpline.
