Half of the counties in Ireland have less than 10 GPs providing abortion services.
The National Women's Council says only Dublin, Cork, Galway and Wicklow have a well-developed network of providers.
It will tell an Oireachtas committee today that, in total, only one in 10 GPs in Ireland are providing abortion services.
The organisation's director, Orla O'Connor, says this needs to change as soon as possible.
"The poor national coverage is something we want to highlight very strongly to the Oireachtas Committee.
"This is such a low level of coverage, and particularly as well in parts of the country where it just becomes in accessible and women have to travel.
"Yes, it is disappointing, and we need to get to a point where women can access abortion near to where they live and they shouldn't have to travel.
"That absolutely needs to be addressed."
