The Government's under fire for putting private nursing homes at risk of closure due to a lack of funding.
Independent TD Sean Canney says the Galway/ Roscommon area has lost 180 nursing home beds in the last year due to closures.
He says they have extra costs since Covid 19, for infection control and more staff to manage the new protocols.
Deputy Canney says private nursing homes aren't getting enough money:
"Historically, they've always been less funded than the public sector. And that's now beginning to come home to roost, especially in view of the increasing costs that are there. But even without these increased costs of living and increased cost of energy, they have been struggling. And in the last year, we've seen so many places close in Galway, and Roscommon I think it's very alarming".
