A plan to reduce the €3,000 student contribution fee and increase the numbers eligible for grants from next month is being considered by Government to combat the cost of living crisis.
The Irish Times reports higher education institutions are being advised to delay collection of registration charges, in case they end up having to refund students.
It's thought around €500 could be cut from the contribution fee.
However Guidance Councillor Brian Mooney isn't sure the measures will be in place in time for the academic year.
