Further measures to ease the pressure of higher energy prices are set to be rubber stamped by Government tomorrow.
It could see a cut in the VAT rate on household fuels and a reduction to the PSO levy on energy bills, which between them would see savings of around €110 a year for consumers.
A further lump sum of €99 for fuel allowance recipients is also planned.
Muireann Lynch, Energy Economist with the ESRI, believes the latest Government intervention is fair.
"Certainly something like the €200 credit that everybody got wasn't particularly well targeted.
"You can understand why you might do that in a pinch just trying to do something quickly.
"Measures that are more targeted or ease the pressure and lower income households more tend to require things like legislation in order to do things like change VAT rates, that's why it can take a little bit longer so it certainly is better targeted than simply giving everybody a blanket increase."
