Government parties said to be edging closer to deal on cuts to emissions from the agriculture sector

Further talks between the three parties leaders last night broke up without a resolution, but sources have indicated the gap on a figure is closing and an agreement could be reached as soon as today.

Meanwhile one TD and farmer is calling on Fianna Fail and Fine Gael to stand up to the Green party and 'put them in their place'.

Independent Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice says the two main parties in Government need to stop being pushed around by the Greens:

"I think that it's time that Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil stand up for the simple reason- the greens are a small part of this government. It's like the pup is wagging the dog's tail at the moment."
