Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch's lawyers are back in court today.
Mr Hutch and former Sinn Féin councillor Jonathan Dowdall are awaiting trial for the murder of David Byrne but their legal teams are trying to get the charges dropped.
Frank Greaney reports for RedFM News:
"Gerry Hutch and Jonathan Dowdall, a former Dublin City Councillor for Sinn Féin, are awaiting trial for the murder of David Byrne, who was shot dead in a Dublin hotel.
Earlier this year, their lawyers failed to convince the High Court to overturn a decision to have their trial heard before the non-jury Special Criminal Court and only a few days ago, they appealed that ruling before the highest court in the land.
That judgement will be delivered at a later date but today, they’re making submissions before the Special Criminal Court as part of their attempt to have the charges dismissed on the grounds of insufficient evidence.
Before they can do that though, the court must first decide whether it has the jurisdiction to even deal with such an application.
Mr Hutch is in court today, sporting a thick grey beard. Mr Dowdall and three co-accused are seated next to him in the dock."
