Gardaí are to investigate allegations a member of GSOC attended a party which was also attended by Gerard Hutch.
Justice Minister Simon Harris has received a report on the issue and has referred it to Gardaí to establish if any concerns of a criminal nature arise.
In a statement Minister Harris says he believes this is the appropriate action to ensure public confidence is maintained in GSOC.
Gardaí have this evening said the inquiry is being conducted by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
