The funeral of the UCC student who passed away after getting into difficulty while swimming in the sea near Ardmore in Co Waterford will take place today.
21 year old Cian Nugent, an engineering student at the college and from the Old Parish in Waterford Ghaletacht, was swimming with a group of friends at Whiting Bay last Friday when they got into difficulty.
Two of the swimmers made it to shore, with the Youghal RNLI lifeboat along with units of the Irish Coast Guard and Rescue 117 working to locate Mr Nugent, who was airlifted to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Mr Nugent's funeral mass will take place at noon in the Church of the Nativity of our Lady in Old Parish, Co. Waterford
