Fostering Fortnight is kicking off today to celebrate strong and supportive relationships in fostering.

It'll run until the 20th of this month, to raise awareness and understanding of foster care in Ireland.

The Irish Foster Care Association's Members Survey shows 46% say family and extended family have supported them in their fostering role.

Its CEO Catherine Bond says it's important to recognise the contribution of foster carers.

"We aim to shine a light on all the valuable contributions made by fostering families every day.

"It's also a chance for all those involved in fostering and the communities that support children in care and foster carers to share and tell their stories and their experiences."
