A Fianna Fáil TD says Bertie Ahern paid the price for the Mahon Tribunal findings.
The former Taoiseach has re-joined the party more than 10 years after resigning his membership in advance of a process to oust him.
Last night Bertie Ahern was given a standing ovation at a party event to mark 25 years since the Good Friday Agreement.
Host of that event, TD Jim O'Callaghan, is glad Bertie Ahern is back in the fold:
"If you look at somebody's political career, that's positive sides and there's negative sides and nobody comes with absolute purity no matter who the politician is. There are negative sides to Bertie's career in politics, but he paid a heavy price for that: he was forced to resign as Taoiseach in 2008, he was forced to leave in Fianna Fáil in 2011. He served his sentence and now we've just decided to have an event to commemorate the positive sides. So it's complex"
