There needs to be serious infrastructure changes if the government plans to ban new gas and oil boiler installations, according to an expert.
The Environment Minister suggested they could be banned by next year for new builds.
The idea being pushed by the government is to design more district heating systems to replace gas and oil boilers.
That means taking heat generated by industry sources and is then pumped out to heat nearby homes.
Niall Farrell from the ESRI says it works in theory, but not for everywhere.
However, a heating contractor believes there needs to be a complete revamp of infrastructure.
John Corr, Managing Director of JCPS Mechanical says this includes in Dublin City.
The plans are boiler bans on new builds for next year, and for existing homes in 2025.
This raises questions as to whether new builds currently in development will be impacted by this.
