Expecting parents who own a dog shouldn't wait until the new-born arrives before training their pet.
That's according to a leading dog trainer, who has been sharing tips to help their dog get used to new surroundings in the months before the new arrival.
Carrying a fake baby in a towel and playing sounds on a phone have been suggested, to see if anything triggers their pet.
Owner of Clever Companions, Lesley Townsend, says they should be equipping their homes also:
"What I suggest to parents is that they have a baby gate on the foot of the stairs so the dog can't go upstairs without you, or without supervision; that there's a baby gate on the baby's room, or on your bedroom - if that's where the baby is going to be sleeping; and that there's a room divider in a sitting room or a kitchen if your house is open plan".
