The Exchequer lost 384 million euro in duty on illegal tobacco products last year.
Retailers say 30 per cent of tobacco products consumed in Ireland are either illegal or Non-Irish Duty Paid.
They are calling for greater resources from government to tackle the increasing trade in illegal tobacco.
Spokesperson for Retailers Against Smuggling Benny Gilsenan says the loss to the Exchequer in duty on illegal tobacco sales over the past 6 to 7 years has exceeded one billion Euro.
