There's a call on Transport Minister Eamon Ryan to intervene to reverse the decision to increase road tolls.

Sinn Fein's Transport Spokesperson Darren O'Rourke is making the call on the Minister and Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

Toll charges are to go up by almost 10% on most toll roads across the country.

Here in Cork, tolls for the M8 Rathcormac/Fermoy bypass will rise 10 cent from January to €2.10 for cars

Deputy O'Rourke says many people including hauliers will be badly impacted:

"It's a decision that that needs to be reversed for so many people, they don't have alternatives they are dependent on their cars that there are no public transport options and for for very many in the the transport industry so, hauliers will be hugely affected by this and this will impact on the viability of some of those businesses so it makes absolutely no sense."
