With daytime temperatures set to go beyond 25 degree in the days ahead pet owners are being urged not to walk their dogs during the day.
Met Éireann has said that overnight temperatures from this Thursday will reach "uncomfortably warm" levels, with daytime temperatures above 25 degrees from Wednesday for up to five days.
Head of education and media at the DSPCA Gillian Bird says walking dogs in high temperatures can cause injuries to their paws:
"Best to exercise your pets early in the morning or late in the evening, but if you do have to take them out during the day just be very conscious as to how hot the ground is. There was patches of tar that were melting today on the roads and on the tarmac so be very careful about how hot the actual road surfaces can be because they can burn their feet."
