Domestic abuse victims will no longer need to be means tested to access short term rent supplements

The measure, which was first introduced in August in response to the pandemic, has now been made a permanent fixture by the Department of Social Protection.

CEO of the National Women’s Council Orla O’Connor welcomes the initiative but wants to see supplements extended beyond three months:

"We are really delighted at the fact that it is now going to continue, however it is only for three months and we know how difficult it is for women to leave domestic violence and and to move out of course of control relationships and housing and accommodation is such a key part in relation to that."
