It's claimed insurance companies are taking drivers "for a ride" by hiking up premiums despite the cost of claims reducing.
The average personal injury award has dropped by nearly 40 per cent since new guidelines were introduced in 2021.
It was hoped the lower costs would be passed on to drivers in the form of cheaper premiums, but the Alliance for Insurance Reform says motor premiums are on the rise.
Director of the Alliance Peter Boland says they've noticed an increase in premiums being quoted in recent weeks.
"What we're starting to hear from ongoing research that we're running over the last few months is that premiums are starting to drift upwards again.
"It's an indication at this stage, I wouldn't say it's a substantial trend, but if this is happening it would unconscionable."
