The Government is being told it can't take action on grocery prices until it finds out where in the food chain the big profits are being made.
The Department of Enterprise is holding talks with supermarkets today, to look at how to tackle food inflation.
The Government has the power to enforce price caps, but yesterday said it would rather resolve the issue first.
Independent TD Marian Harkin thinks processors should be forced to reveal how much they're paid by retailers.
"We know what farmers are being paid, and we know what consumers are paying, but there's a big gap in the middle.
"We need to know where those profit margins are going, and that transparency isn't there.
"If you go back to what the ECB said, they're talking about price gouging. The ECB are a fairly conservative organisation, and they won't talk about it unless it's happening."
