Poultry flock owners have been ordered to house all birds from November 7th.

The Department of Agriculture says the measure is being introduced as a precautionary measure due to a rising number of bird flu cases.

Meanwhile, the IFA's issued a 'red alert' to poultry producers after a case of avian flu in Cavan last week.

The disease has caused havoc across Europe, with culls of poultry ordered in a number of countries, including in the UK.

It's raised concerns about the supply of turkeys this Christmas, as the majority of them come from the Cavan/Monaghan region, where the swan was found.

Poultry Vice Chair of the Irish Farmers Association, Brendan Soden, says they are closely monitoring the situation.
