Creche operators say they’re struggling to keep their doors open, due to widespread staffing issues.
A survey of services shows 14 percent of early care staff were out last week, with half due to Covid related absences.
It’s down slightly from the previous seven days, when 17 percent were out from work
But CEO of Early Childhood Ireland’s Teresa Heeney says Covid is causing havoc with staffing levels
"You know, they get up in the morning and they have a plan for what the day is going to be like, the numbers of children who are coming in, the numbers of pods that are open, and then the phone pings and that's all changed - because somebody now is a close contact and they're not able to come in. And so it's very... it's yeah, that notion of a roller coaster."
